    This document contains all the information needed for entry to the Grammar Schools in Birmingham.

  • Communication

    Timetable & Important Dates

    1.      Submit Test Registration Form by 4pm on Friday 30 June 2017.  N.B. Late registration WILL NOT be accepted.

    2.      Note that the test will be held on Saturday 9th September 2017.

    3.      Visit the School Open days.

    4.      Expect my child’s test results by 13 October 2017.

  • Special Arrangements

    If your child is unable to sit tests on Saturdays for religious reasons we are able to arrange an alternative date. Please tick the box on the registration form and email a supporting letter from your religious leader if you would like us to do this. An alternative date will not be offered without a supporting letter. This letter must be submitted no later than Friday 30 June 2017.

  • Results and Offers

    RESULTS

    You will receive your child's test score by 13th October 2017.  The letter will indicate the scores required for admission to each of the schools in the previous three years. Parents/carers can then decide whether or not to include any of the Grammar Schools in Birmingham on their home Local Authority preference form.

  • The Test

    The test will be held on Saturday 9 September 2017.

    Your child will sit two tests of approximately 50 minutes with additional time needed for instructions to be given.

    Question booklets will be divided into smaller, individually timed sections that test:

  • Eligibility

    Pupils are admitted on the basis of their performance in the test. Applicants are ranked according to their test score and then:

    For King Edward VI Handsworth Grammar School for Boys

    Where test scores are equal, priority will be given to:

    • Looked after children and previously looked after children and then;
    • Those who live nearest to the school

    For Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls

    Where test scores are equal, priority will be given to:

    Test Registration opens - Monday 1 May 2017

  • Entry to Other Years

    Sixth form

    All of the Grammar Schools in Birmingham welcome applications for places in their Sixth form. Entry is based on very good GCSE results.

    The schools have excellent A Level results and most students proceed to university. Sixth form prospectuses and application forms are normally available from the November before the year of entry.

    Years 8 – 11

    Occasionally, vacancies arise for entry after the age of 11 years.
