• Registering for the Entrance Test

    When to apply

See the admissions timetable for details of when you can register.

To be considered for a place at any of the grammar schools in Birmingham for September 2024 entry, applicants must sit the entrance test and achieve the qualifying score or above. Your child's date of birth will be between 1 September 2012 and 31 August 2013 and you register for test during the registration period when your child is in Year 5.

  • Pupil Premium

Each of the grammar schools in Birmingham give some priority to 'Pupil Premium' applicants.

Pupil Premium is additional funding paid to schools by the Government to improve the attainment of disadvantaged children. For the school to receive Pupil Premium funding, the child must have been registered and in receipt of Free School Meals (due to family low income for example) at any point in the last six years. This is different to Universal Free School Meals which all children in Reception - Year 2 receive regardless of income.

  • Special Arrangements

Unable to sit the test on a Saturday

If your child is unable to sit tests on Saturdays for religious reasons we are able to arrange an alternative test day. You must tick the relevant box when registering your child's details online for the test and supply a supporting letter from their religious leader if you would like us to do this. An alternative date will not be offered without a supporting letter. This letter must be submitted no later than 30 June 2023.
