INFORMATION ABOUT “QUALIFYING SCORES”

This note only applies if you wish your child to be considered for a place at one of the five King Edward VI Grammar Schools or Bishop Vesey’s Grammar School. It does not apply to Handsworth Grammar School or Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls.

If you are applying for a place for your child at Bishop Vesey's Grammar School or one of the five King Edward VI Grammar Schools your child must achieve a minimum “qualifying score” in the test to be eligible for entry.  Any children scoring below the qualifying score cannot be considered for a place.

Any Looked After Child / Previously Looked After Child (a child who is or has been in the care of the Local Authority) who achieves the “qualifying score” will be admitted.

If your child is eligible for the Pupil Premium (those who have been registered for Free School Meals at any point in the 6 years prior to the closing date for registration, 30 June 2017) then achieving the “qualifying score” gives your child priority for admissions for up to 20% of the available places (25% at King Edward VI Aston School).

If your child is not eligible for Pupil Premium but has achieved the “qualifying score” then admission is simply by rank order of scores after allocation of places for Looked After Children / Previously Looked After Children and those children who are eligible for Pupil Premium.

Not every child who achieves the qualifying score or above can be offered a place.
